John B. Montoro, CPA, PartnerJohn is a Partner in the Richmond office of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland. He is responsible for quality assurance, training, marketing and service delivery to all of the Firm’s government clients throughout the Southeast. John has been a Certified Public Accountant for over 25 years. Having spent his entire career in public accounting, John has annually served counties, cities, towns, school boards, regional and state agencies and not-for-profit organizations as an auditor and consultant. Over the years, he has served as a utility rate consultant and has performed a variety of consulting services, including indirect cost plans, debt capacity studies, technology strategic plans, budget forecasts, rate and debt capacity studies, and internal control reviews. He spent 12 years with a regional accounting firm and five years running his own company before merging his practice into CB&H in 1996. John has assisted many local governments and agencies with GASB 34 implementation, and has spoken on the subject at a number of conferences and seminars. He has also spearheaded the development and release of CB&H’s GO-Link!, a report writer that provides an automated solution to the external report writing process. John received a Bachelor of City Planning degree from the University of Virginia in 1978. He is a Certified Public Accountant with licenses in several states, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA). He currently serves as treasurer of Salisbury Presbyterian Church and volunteers with several service organizations, including Habitat for Humanity. John is also a frequent speaker on topics of interest to local governments. | ||||
