Nationally recognized public accounting firm Cherry Bekaert LLP (“the Firm”) is pleased to announce Gustavo “Gus” Perez has earned the Intangible Assets Specialty Designation by the American Society of Appraisers (“ASA”).

Approved by the International Board of Examiners, the Intangible Assets designation is part of an accreditation program created by the ASA. The designation reflects third-party reliability concerns related to intangible asset valuations, and includes various business valuation concepts, practices and assumptions not usually measured by traditional business valuation professionals. Professionals who are currently an Accredited Senior Appraiser in Business Valuation, such as Perez, are eligible to receive the Intangible Assets designation.

An Advisory Principal and National Leader of Cherry Bekaert’s Valuation Services Group, Perez advises clients in multiple industries on complex valuations, including analyses of privately held companies and intangible assets for purposes of financial reporting compliance, mergers and acquisitions, estate and gift tax, divorce proceedings, shareholder disputes, and other legal, regulatory and tax-related matters. Based in the Firm’s South Florida practice, he provides in-depth financial analysis in large, complex litigation matters, fraud investigations and valuation assignments, and has testified as an expert witness in litigation and international arbitration cases involving large multinational and Fortune 500 companies.

With over ten years of valuation and litigation support experience, Perez specializes in valuations for business combination, goodwill and other intangible assets (ASC 350 and 805), stock-based compensation, derivative instruments and hedging activities (ASC 718 and 815). In addition, he is a board member and former president of the ASA’s Greater Miami Chapter, as well as a member of the Appraisal Issues Task Force, CFA Institute and Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA).
