The FAR requires a contractor to file a report with the contracting agency Inspector General whenever the contractor suspects that fraud may have been committed in regard to a contract or subcontract.  In addition, contractors are required to inform the contracting officer whenever the contractor believes it has received an over-payment.  Whenever either report is filed, DCAA may be asked to review the cost impact of the transaction on the government and the contractor’s internal controls.
