Tom is a Certified Public Accountant, and serves as the statewide leader of CB&H’s Real Estate and Construction Industry Group in Georgia. Tom has over 28 years of experience serving as a valued business advisor and tax consultant to clients engaged in the development, acquisition, leasing, brokerage and financing of residential, multifamily, retail and mixed-use properties.
Based in the Firm’s Metro Atlanta practice, Tom specializes in the areas of deal structuring, debt and equity placement, feasibility analysis, due diligence and tax planning. His advanced real estate tax planning expertise includes tax deferral strategies, §1031 and TIC transactions, tax incentives and predevelopment tax strategies.
Tom’s practical business experience gives him valuable insight and perspective into the objectives and needs of CB&H’s real estate clients. During his real estate career, Tom has been involved in nearly all aspects of real estate development, from site acquisition, construction and financing to the leasing, management, marketing, and disposition of land, residential and commercial properties. His extensive experience includes work both as chief financial officer for national and international developers and as president of his own real estate development and finance company.
Prior to recently joining CB&H through a merger, Tom served as president of Massey + Pittman, CPA P.C., where he specialized in providing business strategy, tax planning, merger and acquisition, and IRS controversy services to real estate clients, high net worth individuals and entrepreneurs. He has been a registered representative (Series 7 license) with a major regional brokerage firm. Tom previously worked with other CPA firms specializing in the representation of real estate syndicators and developers.
Tom received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Master of Taxation from Georgia State University. Licensed to practice as a CPA in Georgia and North Carolina, Tom is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Real Estate and Tax sections of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and the Midtown Alliance.
