When Pledged College Donations Fall Short

While not commonly documented, several colleges have faced a situation where a donor is unable to fulfill their pledged gift. Such situations are usually kept under wraps, but can become public under various circumstances such as a death or unforeseen business troubles. If a pledged amount goes unfulfilled, however, colleges and universities should remember that the lasting impact falls on the donor and not the institution. In addition, institutions should project confidence and move forward with their fundraising efforts despite the potential on future donations.
