Jim Fowler Joins as Tax Partner in Cherry Bekaert’s Charlotte Practice

Cherry Bekaert LLP (“the Firm”), one of the country’s top public accounting firms, is delighted to welcome James A. Fowler, Jr., as a Tax Partner in the Firm’s Charlotte practice.

In this role, Fowler will support publically-traded and privately-held middle market companies with tax planning, merger and acquisition, consolidated C corporation and IRS audit defense matters. Specifically, he will provide guidance in tax minimization strategies, consolidated filings, accounting method changes and tax compliance to corporate clients within the industrial, retail, technology and life sciences, and financial services sectors.

“Jim will be instrumental in supporting our middle market clients by providing comprehensive tax services that address their tax planning and compliance needs,” said Erik Horstmann, Managing Partner of Cherry Bekaert’s Charlotte practice. “His expertise in a variety of tax issues will benefit the Firm’s Tax practice in our continued efforts to strengthen existing client relationships and attract new business opportunities.”

With more than 20 years of tax experience, Fowler is known for his extensive knowledge of income tax accounting (ASC 740). He is also an expert on identification policies, hedging timing recognition issues, securitizations, non-economic residuals, Original Issue Discounts, secondary market discounts, defeasance and debt modifications.

Fowler previously served as a tax partner at a top 20 accounting firm. Prior to joining Cherry Bekaert, he was the director of tax for a public regional retail chain.

A graduate of Central Michigan University, Fowler received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
