In the September/October 2016 issue of Florida CPA Today, Cherry Bekaert’s (“the Firm”) Gustavo “Gus” Perez shares his thoughts on why firms should implement new service lines to stand out from the competition and attract prospective clients. The Firm’s National Leader of Valuation Services centers his discussion on ways to expand services offered, as well as references the challenges firms may face in becoming a market leader.

Perez notes that when identifying and implementing new service lines, firms should have an understanding of their identity and clients’ needs. He recommends that any new service line should complement a firm’s existing service lines and industry expertise. In addition, Perez believes it is critical for firms to select new services and leverage current service lines to help become recognized as a market leader.

When implementing a new service line, Perez wants firms to consider the potential costs. Integrating new services can be time consuming, so firms should keep in mind any additional resources that will be necessary to support their operations. Upon launching a new service, Perez says informing the support team and current and prospective clients, external communication, and collaboration among the existing service lines are critical to a firm’s implementation process and objective to gain a competitive edge.
