The Department of Defense’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (“CMMC”) is a unified cybersecurity standard for future DoD acquisitions aimed at securing the Defense Industrial Base supply chain. The most critical part of the DoD‘s new cybersecurity standards requires third-party assessments for all defense contractors and subcontractors who wish to do business with the DoD.

Cherry Bekaert is pleased to announce that Neal Beggan, a Principal in the Firm’s Risk Assurance and Advisory Services practice has become certified as one of the first 73 Provisional Assessors nationwide for CMMC. The assessors and all other parts of the CMMC ecosystem will be overseen by the nascent CMMC Accreditation Body (AB).

This accomplishment will provide the path for Cherry Bekaert to become one of the early certified CMMC 3rd Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAO) able to conduct assessments.

For the latest information on CMMC, join Neal and Eric Poppe, a Senior Manager in Cherry Bekaert’s Government Contractor Services Group, for a new podcast series where they discuss the current state of CMMC and navigating its impact on the government contracting community. Part One is available now for on demand listening and Part 2, a discussion on the new Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) Interim Rule will be released on November 5th.
