James Fowler

A Tax Partner in Cherry Bekaert’s Charlotte practice, Jim provides comprehensive tax services to both publically-traded and privately-held middle-market companies. With over 20 years of experience, he helps clients navigate tax planning, merger and acquisition, consolidated C corporation and IRS audit defense issues. In particular, corporate clients within the industrial, retail, technology and life sciences, and financial services, sectors benefit from Jim’s expertise with tax minimization strategies, consolidated filings, accounting method changes and tax compliance.

In addition, Jim has an extensive history in income tax accounting (ASC 740), including FIN 48, from both an outsourcing, or review standpoint and has been instrumental in assisting clients with process redesigns. His expertise includes tax hedge identification policies, hedging timing recognition issues, securitizations, non-economic residuals, OIDs (Original Issue Discounts), secondary market discounts, defeasance, and debt modifications.

Prior to joining Cherry Bekaert, Jim was the director of tax for a public, regional retail chain, and a tax partner at a top 20 accounting firm.
