Katherine Newman

A Certified Public Accountant with more than 25 years of experience, Katherine assists clients with forensic accounting, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and auditing matters.

Katherine assists clients in due diligence for cross-border acquisitions, valuations of target companies, and capital raising in public and private capital markets. She also serves clients in fraud investigations, preparing and defending damage claims, in bankruptcy and receiverships, and as expert witness at trials. In addition, she actively assists the Latin American offices of Baker Tilly International with forensic matters and Corporate Finance and SEC work.

Prior to joining Cherry Bekaert, Katherine was a partner with a Big Four firm in Mexico and Brazil. Fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, she was the partner in charge of capital markets, with clients in Brazil, Chile and Argentina. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami Graduate School of Business, where she teaches Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation. She is certified in Financial Forensics by the the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Katherine was a representative on the national committees in Brazil and Mexico which worked with the AICPA International Practices Task Force. She worked on fraud investigations for the SEC, the FBI, the Securities Investor Protection Corporation and various attorneys.
